Ceramic Expression of The Kiss - Gustav Klimt
This is a ceramic wall plaque inspired by Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss. It was created from a hand-rolled stoneware or earthenware slab, shaped into an irregular organic outline to soften its geometric base. The figures and decorative motifs were first sketched and carved in low relief at the leather-hard stage. Additional textures, such as spirals in the background and raised garment details, were applied with slip and carved tools.
Colour was achieved using underglazes and oxides to define the figures’ skin tones, robes, and patterned motifs. After bisque firing, the surface was coated with a clear glossy glaze, intensifying the colours and giving the plaque its reflective quality. Some metallic and gold-like effects were likely achieved through luster glaze, echoing Klimt’s gilded style.
The plaque is designed for wall display, with hanging plate attachments supllied. It functions as both decorative art and homage, blending painterly detail with the tactile language of clay.
